International Chefs Day 2016 in Bali

Bali Culinary Professional (BCP) and Young Chefs Club Indonesia Bali Chapter (YCCI) as a member of the Worldchefs, celebrated the recognition of their profession during International Chefs Day, 20th October, 2016. The BCP together with Young Chefs Club Indonesia invited orphans from around Bali to the newly opened Prambanan Kencana Baking Centre Bali.

Members of BCP and YCCI made a demo to the orphans how to make selection of breads and doughnuts. In the same occasion they also prepared lunch and donated gas oven to orphanage. The oven is expected to be used by the orphans to continue doing what they have learned from the Chefs.

It’s really our privilege to empower less fortunate kids to have new skill that they can use to have better future.

20 October has been marked as a special occasion by culinarians to salute the profession and create awareness of chefs who have set remarkable industry standards for the art of cooking. The commemorative day was initiated by the World Association of Chefs Societies (Worldchefs) in 2004.

International Chefs Day 2016 in Azerbaijan

Remember a fresh homemade loaf of bread come out of the oven or smelling homemade cookies? The first-ever Bread Festival will showcase in Baku a large variety of this sacred food. Everything from traditional kinds of bread to various bakery products will be presented at the festival.

The event, marking the International Chefs Day will take place in the majestic Serin restaurant on October 20 beginning from 11:00am, Trend Life reported This international observance is considered to be a professional day of all chefs around the world. The holiday was established under initiative of World Association of Chef's Societies in 2004.

Celebration usually includes culinary contests, organized in many cities. Festival has some of the most skilled bakers from more than country's twenty regions as well as guests from Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine and other countries. Every October 20, home cooks, and professional chefs across the world celebrate International Chef’s Day. As the name implies, the day is meant to celebrate the greatest of culinary gurus.

Azerbaijani people can’t really imagine their national cuisine without homemade bread. There are other bread varieties sold in Azerbaijani bakeries, including tandir, lavash, and shirinchorek. Each of them is different in shape, size, taste and smell. Cooking of bread from flour and water is done by its steaming and roasting.

Tandir bread is usually preferred over others on special occasions, such as weddings, birthday parties and holiday celebrations. It's history began in Neolithic. Scientists note that the word “tandir” refers to the ancient Turkic peoples (the Sumerians). The bread cooks in the inside of the hollow which has been plastered in surroundings. Bread is cooked by attaching on walls of tandir. The bread is also prepared like fragile bread and kept for a long time.

Lavash is thin flat bread made of water, flour and salt. It's thickness varies depending on how thin it was rolled out. Toasted sesame seeds or poppy seeds are sometimes sprinkled on before baking. The bread is widely consumed in Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Iran.

Shirin chorek, or sweet bread, is mostly baked on holidays such as Novruz and Ramadan. Here's exactly how to make a delicious pastry. Enjoy the pastry with a cup of tea as Azerbaijanis would typically do.

5 Things You Need to Know About International Chefs Day

What will chefs around the world be embarking on this International Chefs’ Day? Art On a Plate.

International Chefs Day is back again this 20 October 2016!

This year, we want to excite kids around the world about the importance of healthy eating, impress upon them the wonders of the culinary profession and teach them good eating habits they can carry with them for life. Here are a few things you need to know.

Partner:  Nestlé Professional, and they will offer the expertise of the Nestlé Healthy Kids programme and partner with chefs associations around the world, to make this possible. We have involved our nutritionist, and creative partners to develop this comprehensive toolkit for you.

Statistics:  Last year, chefs affiliated to over 103 member organisations around the world took part in this special day by hosting workshops and activities for thousands of kids. With your participation, we want to make International Chefs Day 2016 bigger and better than ever.

Theme: ‘World on a Plate’. We want to use this opportunity to teach kids about healthy eating by letting them be creative with food. With your help the kids will turn healthy recipes into fun, edible ‘Art on a Plate’ that will not only be fun to make, but healthy to eat too.

What to Expect:  Kids learn best through creative, fun activities. During these mini-workshops, chefs will help kids create edible artwork with healthy, nutritious ingredients. In this way, we can teach a new generation about good nutrition in a highly interactive, fun and memorable way.

Programme:  To link strongly to the WORLDCHEFS ‘World on a Plate’ theme for 2016, the kids can create any artwork that features something special about their own country. We call this edible art ‘A taste of my country’. On the day, the kids will be able to create an edible artwork on a plate that pays tribute to any aspect of the country they love: from its unique landscape, flag, animals, plants or even famous people. The participating Kids can choose any subject that relates to this theme.

Please reach out to your local Nestlé Professional team for support in arranging the event in your community.

We went to Sydney at Curren’s Hill Primary School, Canberra at St Thomas Moore Primary School, Victoria at St Bridget’s Catholic School and South Australia at Kilkenny Primary school teaching kids about healthy food and making them CHEF for the day.

International Chefs Day 2015 – Latvia

To celebrate International Chefs Day 2015 Latvian Chefs Club organized two events to promote healthy eating for kids.

First event was held in Restaurant Service School in Riga. Pastry chefs Maija Kaire and Jānis Kairis together with chef and owner of the school Māris Astičs were showing kids how to cook healthy and tasty snacks for themselves.

20 children of age 8 to 12 from the Riga Secondary School of Crafts were having fun and learning how important it is to eat properly and how delicious healthy food can be. The event was interesting for teachers and parents as well, and it was also attended by approx. 7 journalists, so Latvian Chefs Club is very happy, that this important message which stands by theme “Healthy kids – healthy future” is spreading around Latvia.

The second event was held on 29th of October in Jelgava city, where our young and talented sous-chef Haralds Saušs was presenting a master class for teachers about healthy food and seasonality of products.

The president of Latvian Chefs Club Svetlana Riškova was very gratified, that Latvian chefs union not only can be a part of The World Association of Chef’s Societies, but is able to take some real actions to improve our future. It would not be possible without our sponsors and supportive partners – Nestle, Reaton, Gemoss, RÄ«gas piensaimnieks, Narute Gift, Lenneward rabbits, Fruit Serviss SIA, Live Riga, Jelgava City Council.
