First event was held in Restaurant Service School in Riga. Pastry chefs Maija Kaire and Jānis Kairis together with chef and owner of the school Māris Astičs were showing kids how to cook healthy and tasty snacks for themselves.

20 children of age 8 to 12 from the Riga Secondary School of Crafts were having fun and learning how important it is to eat properly and how delicious healthy food can be. The event was interesting for teachers and parents as well, and it was also attended by approx. 7 journalists, so Latvian Chefs Club is very happy, that this important message which stands by theme “Healthy kids – healthy future” is spreading around Latvia.

The second event was held on 29th of October in Jelgava city, where our young and talented sous-chef Haralds Saušs was presenting a master class for teachers about healthy food and seasonality of products.

The president of Latvian Chefs Club Svetlana Riškova was very gratified, that Latvian chefs union not only can be a part of The World Association of Chef’s Societies, but is able to take some real actions to improve our future. It would not be possible without our sponsors and supportive partners – Nestle, Reaton, Gemoss, RÄ«gas piensaimnieks, Narute Gift, Lenneward rabbits, Fruit Serviss SIA, Live Riga, Jelgava City Council.

International Chefs Day 2015 – Bratislava, Slovakia

The Slovak Association of Chefs and Pastry Chefs, in cooperation with our general partner METRO Cash & Carry Ltd Slovakia, celebrated the International Chefs’ day with children in a primary school in Bratislava.

We spoke about how important it is to board in a healthy way. How important for the health is the consumption of fruit and vegetables as the source of vitamins. We chose AVOCADO for this occasion.

Together with children, the chefs prepared a “little treat” consisting of the avocado spread and mixed fruit and vegetable salad. The recipes were composed in a way to be manageable by children with only little help of the adults.

At the end of this meeting the chefs presented to children the recipes of both dishes they prepared along with the information on the positive impact of avocado on the human health.

In addition to this, the company METRO presented them the avocado, so that they could show their cleverness to their parents at home. In return, children presented to the chefs their pictures they prepared during the meeting.

Of course, the chefs were the main “heroes” of these pictures. It was a very pleasant meeting that led to the promise by the chefs that they would keep visiting children on a regular basis. We will be happy to make this promise become true.
