A Landmark Moment for Worldchefs Congress

The 2026 Worldchefs Congress & Expo is the first in the event’s 98-year history to be held in any part of the United Kingdom, hosted in partnership with the Culinary Association of Wales (CAW).

“This is a golden opportunity to engage face to face with some of the most influential chefs from around the globe”, says Culinary Association of Wales (CAW) President Arwyn Watkins, OBE. “Nearly 800 attendees from around the globe will be in attendance, with 60% identified as buyers and influencers within their own country. Delegates will hear insights from experts, have a chance to take part in immersive workshops to spark new ideas for their business or career, and expand their network at official events with the largest culinary body worldwide.”

2026 Program Highlights

Worldchefs Congress & Expo is designed to bring together chefs, educators, and hospitality professionals from nearly 100 countries for three days of learning, networking, and global culinary exchange. This year’s theme, ‘Pasture, Passion, Plate,’ celebrates the journey of food from its origins to the final dish and how it connects us all—from farm to fork, across borders and cultures.

The program, a collaborative effort between Worldchefs, CAW and event partners, delivers on this theme through keynote speakers— including Michelin-starred Marco Pierre White, Tom Phillips and Sian Wyn Owen—networking events, the Global Chefs Challenge Finals, and an international trade exhibition.

In addition to a lineup of engaging speaker presentations, the program also features culinary demos from guests including One Michelin-starred Hywel Jones, Dilmah Tea, pastry chef Pierre Abi Hayla, and sustainability expert Colin Wheeler-James.

Sustainability is a central theme throughout the program, with dedicated sessions focused on protecting the planet and supporting the people behind the industry. Attendees will discover the latest about sustainability-driven Worldchefs programs, including Feed the Planet initiatives and the EU co-funded project FoodChoices4LIFE, with opportunities to learn more and get involved.

For Chefs at Every Career Stage

As part of Worldchefs’ mission to empower the next generation of industry leaders, the 2026 Congress program was thoughtfully created to provide transformative experiences for chefs at all stages of their careers, with special opportunities for young chefs.

During the May 2026 event, the Worldchefs Global Development of Young Chefs Committee will unveil a new Young Chef mentorship toolkit, developed to provide structured guidance to culinary associations so that they can better resource young chefs globally.

Bill Gallagher Young Chefs Forum

The Bill Gallagher Young Chefs Forum, powered by Nestlé Professional for the 6th consecutive edition, provides exclusive sessions for young chefs. Youth delegates will have full access to the Congress & Expo programming, as well as tailored sessions and excursions, including a trip to Newport Market, a foraging outing, and an exclusive dinner at Tiny Rebel.

Face-to-face sessions with some of the event’s key headliners will be available only for youth delegates, providing young chefs with remarkable access to leading voices to help shape their careers. Michelin-starred chefs including Marco Pierre White, Tom Phillips, and Sian Wyn Owen, are part of the unique Young Chefs Forum program.

Young chefs in face-to-face session during Worldchefs Congress 2024.

“I’ve been lucky enough to go to Worldchefs Congress two times… and they were two of the most incredible experiences that I’ve had. Being able to meet other young chefs from different countries and nationalities with the same common goal of learning—it’s such a fun experience.”

– Angelica Iuliano, Worldchefs Young Chefs Ambassador Mentor

SESSIONS to unite global movements

The Bill Gallagher Young Chefs Forum is one of the ways in which Worldchefs Congress & Expo 2026 builds upon Worldchefs’ ongoing efforts to empower the next generation. This includes its collaboration on the World Food Forum’s Young Chefs Programme, launched in 2025, which engages young culinary professionals worldwide to inspire and guide other chefs to advocate for more sustainable and healthier consumption habits.

Through projects like this, Worldchefs has strengthened its collaboration with key international bodies including the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and other global coalitions.

Reflecting these growing partnerships, Worldchefs Congress & Expo 2026 will mark the first time that United Nations leadership will be present, with Kazuki Kitaoka, Director for Youth & Women at FAO, addressing delegates and participating in the session Cooking Up the Future: What’s in Store for the Next Gen.

Further highlighting international collaboration, the session FoodChoices4Life: A new opportunity to connect, act, and inspire will also provide delegates with insights and ways to get involved in FoodChoices4LIFE, a new initiative co-funded by the European Commission that empowers citizens to accelerate climate action and behavioral change in food systems.

On the final day of the program, Worldchefs will also introduce its collaboration with World Central Kitchen, building upon the current efforts of World Chefs Without Borders to proactively position chefs to play a powerful role in disaster response across the globe.

A Platform for Learning

Knowledge-sharing and skill building are essential functions of Worldchefs Congress & Expo, with educational sessions allowing all delegates to engage with leading experts at presentations and masterclasses.

Specialized programming is also offered to culinary educators, including Worldchefs extensive global network of Education Partners.

“Worldchefs Congress is, at its core, an educational event. Every session is a chance to learn, either from some of the most respected leaders in our industry or from new and diverse voices bringing fresh perspectives in. It’s an opportunity for exchange between chefs from around the world, sharing ideas, experiences, and cultures. With our education partners also playing a key role, Congress becomes a truly global classroom and inspires, challenges, and helps move our profession forward. Nothing like breaking bread with all your friends from around the world! Don’t get left behind.”

– Charles M. Carroll  CEC, AAC, Worldchefs Congress Committee Chairman

educators’ Forum

The Worldchefs Educators’ Forum is built for culinary educators and academic leaders to explore how culinary education must evolve to meet the realities of today’s industry, and tomorrow’s.

The forum’s 2026 theme, Redesigning the Culinary Curriculum: What Must Change by 2030?, brings together voices from across the association’s global network to ask the question: If we designed culinary schools’ curriculum from scratch today, what would it look like?

Attendees are invited to participate and contribute their diverse perspectives for a global dialogue on how educators, training institutions, and industry leaders can proactively shape curricula for the next generation of chefs.

The Forum, along with extensive programming geared towards education and future-proofing skills, is a key venue for conversation around the future of culinary education and career pathways during Worldchefs Congress & Expo.

4 Days of Conversation & Connection

Worldchefs Congress & Expo is a platform for chefs to expand their professional bonds with the most influential culinary body worldwide. Networking events run throughout the event, providing delegates with the chance to be a part of a global gathering of colleagues in a variety of settings.

With up to 800 attendees joining from nearly 100 countries, networking opportunities from receptions, breakout sessions and side events offer different ways for attendees to connect and exchange, including:

The Home Nations will also host a charity dinner on Sunday, May 17 at ICC Wales, with each country cooking a course on the four-course menu. Worldchefs Opens Call for Partnership to Host the Global Chefs Challenge Finals 2027–2031

Worldchefs has launched a Call for Partnership to host the Global Chefs Challenge Finals 2027–2031, inviting national chef associations, event organizers, and destination partners to bid for the right to stage Worldchefs’ flagship culinary competition.

  • Worldchefs invites bids to host the Global Chefs Challenge Finals 2027–2031, calling on national chef associations and event partners to submit proposals to stage three consecutive editions of the organization’s flagship culinary competition.
  • Hosting the Finals positions the partner destination as the home of a global competition, boosting international visibility, attracting government and sponsor support, and creating lasting economic and industry impact. Download the Call for Partnership to review eligibility requirements and more information.

Paris, 12 November 2025 – The World Association of Chefs’ Societies (Worldchefs), the largest international body of professional chefs’ associations, has announced the opening of the bidding process to host the Global Chefs Challenge Finals 2027–2031, marking a new chapter for the organization’s flagship culinary competition.

Held biennially since its inception in 2008, the Global Chefs Challenge brings together top chefs from around the world to compete in multiple categories, including the Global Chefs Challenge, the Global Pastry Chefs Challenge, the Global Vegan Chefs Challenge, and the Global Young Chefs Challenge.

Worldchefs is now inviting proposals from national chef associations and experienced event organizers to host the Finals for three consecutive editions, held every two years, from 2027 to 2031. The aim is to establish a permanent or recurring host city in partnership with a major international food exhibition.

The selected host will be expected to deliver top-tier infrastructure, jointly secure sponsor and government support, and help elevate the competition’s global visibility and impact.

A New Chapter for a Flagship Competition

Culinary competitions are at the heart of what we do at Worldchefs. They are central to our identity as chefs and play a vital role within our associations

Andy Cuthbert, Worldchefs President

Over the course of the competition’s nearly two-decade-long run, the Global Chefs Challenge Finals have been held alongside the Worldchefs Congress & Expo. In a strategic move, the Finals will now be hosted as a standalone Worldchefs-branded event. This shift allows for greater visibility, wider participation, and enhanced partnerships, while avoiding scheduling conflicts with other major international competitions.

“Culinary competitions are at the heart of what we do at Worldchefs. They are central to our identity as chefs and play a vital role within our associations,” said Andy Cuthbert, President of Worldchefs. “To elevate the Global Chefs Challenge to even greater heights, we have reimagined it as an independent global event, one that reflects the prestige and professionalism of our craft and the passion of our international community.”

A Partnership for Global Gastronomy

The selected host city, as host of the prestigious competition, will be the official home and hub for culinary excellence, partnering with Worldchefs to deliver the world-class culinary competition. Integrated with a major international food or hospitality trade show, the event will build on the existing competition categories to reflect the evolving landscape of global gastronomy.

Bringing together international competitors, judges, sponsors, and media representatives from around the world, hosting the Finals presents a unique opportunity to:

  • Establish a reputation as a culinary capital;
  • Boost international visibility through Worldchefs’ global media and industry network;
  • Generate significant economic, educational, and cultural value through tourism and talent exchange; and
  • Establish a lasting legacy in culinary education, sustainability, and skills development.
Eligibility and Hosting Criteria

To be considered, proposals must:

  • Be submitted jointly by an active Worldchefs National Member Association and an experienced event management partner;
  • Demonstrate proven experience hosting international food, hospitality, or culinary competitions;
  • Provide suitable facilities, including a minimum 1,000 sqm venue with competition arena, kitchens, and hospitality areas;
  • Show strong government and sponsor support, and a commitment to sustainability and inclusion.

Priority will be given to destinations offering international accessibility and a track record of major culinary or trade events.

In line with Worldchefs’ global mission, host partners must demonstrate responsible event practices, including:

  • Use of local, seasonal, and sustainably sourced ingredients;
  • Waste reduction and food donation initiatives;
  • Green venue standards and plastic-free operations; and
  • An inclusive, respectful environment for all participants and guests.

Worldchefs encourages hosts to submit a short post-event sustainability report to highlight outcomes and best practices.

Submit an Expression of Interest

Worldchefs will review all submissions and select a host destination for the 2027–2031 cycle in 2026, following consultation with its Board of Directors and Culinary Committee.

For full partnership details, eligibility criteria, and submission requirements, interested parties can download a Call for Partnership document.

Singapore Crowned Champion at Global Pastry Chef Challenge Finals 2022

At this international competition organised by Worldchefs (The World Association of Chefs’ Societies), Singapore also nabbed second runner-up in the Global Chef Challenge category.

With a chocolate sculpture in the shape of a genie coming out of a bottle as their winning entry, Singapore has emerged the victor to take home the top prize at the Global Pastry Chef Challenge 2022 in Abu Dhabi last Friday (Jun 3).

The Singapore pastry team – represented by Dexter Lee who is ITE College West’s pastry and baking chef-lecturer, along with his assistant Terence Lin – beat out first runner-up Italy and second runner-up France.

The Global Pastry Chef Challenge is part of an international competition organised by Worldchefs (The World Association of Chefs’ Societies) – a non-political professional body dedicated to maintaining and improving the culinary standards of global cuisines.

The Global Chefs Challenge and the Global Young Chefs Challenge make up the other two of the three categories international top chefs get to compete in.

This year’s finals took place in Abu Dhabi from May 31 to Jun 3, where the continent’s strongest teams pitted their culinary skills against each other.

In the Global Pastry Chef Challenge category, Team Singapore had to present a total three creations – a chocolate sculpture, a plated dessert and an entremet (a classic French dessert) cake

Led by team manager Gary Lim, senior lead instructor at Temasek Polytechnic, the Lee and Lin duo created the afore-mentioned “Genie coming out of a bottle” chocolate sculpture based on the “1001 Arabian Nights” theme the team.

They also crafted a fine-dining plated dessert comprising an earl grey parfait, mango jelly and bergamot ice disc, complemented with a warm chocolate moist cake, complete with a Valrhona Bahibe emulsion.

Their final creation – the Orange Bitter Almond Entremet Cake, was made of bitter almond mousse, clementine pear compote layered with bitter almond joconde and crunchy crumble.

The pair had to prepare 12 portions of a four-course menu – a vegan cold starter, a warm appetizer, a main course and dessert. They presented a Vegan Coconut Soubise Flan with White Onion Quinoa Cous Cous, Steamed Sterling White Halibut with Saffron Mouse and Pickled Daikon, Compression of VanDrie Dutch Veal Fillet & Neck and Valrhona Bahibe 46 per cent Chocolate Molleux with Citrus Meringue.

    Worldchefs Certified Judging Levels Expanded to Support Skills Development

    Worldchefs Certified Judging Levels Expanded to Support Skills Development

    • The Worldchefs Culinary Committee has expanded Worldchefs Certified Judge levels to support the highest standards in culinary competitions and juries.
    • The new model provides additional opportunities for skills development in culinary competition judging.
    • Worldchefs Certified Judges will be issued updated Worldchefs’ certificates and digital badges matched to their new judging level. Individuals are encouraged to update their Worldchefs online profile for the most up-to-date information on the Worldchefs Certified Judge Directory.

    Paris, 6 of July 2021 – The Worldchefs Culinary Competition Committee (CCC) has expanded Worldchefs Certified Judge levels to support the highest standards in culinary competitions and juries. The new model has been developed as part of the CCC’s mission to advance standards of excellence built on professionalism, leadership, and collaboration.

    “The whole idea of the change was to modernize our approach to every changing aspect of the culinary world,” says Rick Stephen, Worldchefs Culinary Committee Chairman. “Keeping up with food and the world standards and the new challenges that face all food-related competitions with hygiene and food waste been paramount.”

    The new levels will provide additional opportunities for skills development in culinary competition judging. Worldchefs Certified Judges can progress through the judging levels over the course of their career and culinary competition experience to reflect their commitment and expertise in the field.

    The Culinary Committee has taken a dynamic approach to incorporate mentorship and peer learning into the new model. A Learner Judge-or Rookie Judge-level has been introduced to advance the future of juries, encouraging competitions around the globe to take a more active role in supporting the new guard of international competition standards.

    “We envisage the opportunity to feature more traditional cuisines from our members’ regions and countries, but also to have these cuisines on the international stage and be judged by experts in that style of cuisine,” says Stephen.

    Complete information on the application process and requirements to become a Worldchefs Certified Judge can be found here. A brief outline of the new judging levels is as follows:

    1. Rookie / Learner Judge: Qualifying candidates with the necessary endorsements can serve at a Rookie / Learner Judge level. Proof of participation as a Rookie / Learner Judge at Worldchefs Endorsed Competitions can be used as supporting documents in applications for all Worldchefs Certified Judge levels.
    2. Sponsored Judge: Qualified chefs recognized as experts from a reputable company or institution can serve at a Sponsored Judge level. Sponsored Judges are mentored by a Worldchefs Certified Judge prior to any event.
    3. Worldchefs Certified Regional Judge: The Worldchefs Certified Regional Judge level is designed for culinary competition jurors with a local scope, not just limited to regional, but also international regions where your language or cuisine may be featured. This is a stepping stone to the next level.
    4. Worldchefs Certified Continental Judge: The Worldchefs Certified Continental Judge level represents mid-level culinary professionals with some judging experience, including competitors with silver medal performance and/or a minimum of two years in a high-end restaurant environment. The Worldchefs Certified Continental Judge level has replaced the former B Judge level.
    5. Worldchefs Certified International Judge: The Worldchefs Certified International Judge level represents senior-level culinary professionals with advanced judging experience, including competitors with silver medal performance and/or a minimum of five years in a high-end restaurant environment. The Worldchefs Certified International Judge level has replaced the former A Judge level. The new rules also allow for Worldchefs Certified International Judges to serve as observer judges.
    6. Worldchefs Honorary / Life Judge: The Worldchefs Honorary / Life Judge level is awarded by the Worldchefs President for outstanding contributions to Worldchefs and competition programs. Recipients must be in good standing as a Worldchefs Certified Judge at any level.

    Additional requirements for specialized credentials still apply for applications to judging categories, which now include: Culinary Arts & Hot Kitchen, Pastry Arts, Carving, Community Catering, and Vegan/Plant-Based Cuisine.
