Dilmah Wins Product of the Year

Melbourne, Australia · 20 November 2019 ·  Dilmah Wins Product of the Year

Founder of Dilmah – Merrill J. Fernando – accepted the prestigious consumer award for Product of the Year for the Dilmah Natural Infusions last night. The winning range includes three natural wellness inspired infusions.

Product of the Year accepts entries every year from products around the world that demonstrate innovation and were launched within the previous year (survey of 10,000 people by Nielsen). The Product of the Year is the world’s largest consumer-voted award for product innovation. The Dilmah Infusions range has been voted number one in the tea category this year and will hold this seal for the next 12 months.

Each infusion is caffeine-free and made from a combination of Sri Lankan spices and herbs that contain powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory benefits – promoting overall wellness and healing with every sip.

“I named Dilmah after my sons Dilhan and Malik, and it is just as precious to me.  I will never compromise on the great taste, natural goodness and ethical purpose which form the heart of Dilmah.  I first brought Dilmah to Australia in the 1980s as a tea grower with a dream of launching my own brand. Everyone told me it was impossible, but Australian tea drinkers appreciate the taste and goodness in my tea and gave me the break I needed.  I am humbled that 32 years later Australian consumers have once again recognised my commitment to quality, authenticity and a genuine purpose” says Mr. Fernando.

The Dilmah Infusions are inspired by the natural goodness that is the foundation of the Sri Lankan Ayurveda and ingredients produced by local artisans. In addition to its handpicked teas, Dilmah produces Ceylon Cinnamon, known for its health benefits whilst turmeric, clove, moringa, cardamom and other ingredients are produced by artisan farmers. The combination of great taste and natural goodness come from the authentic, handpicked herbs, roots and spices used in the Infusions.

Since launching, Dilmah has expanded to over 100 countries, yet maintaining its founding commitment to quality and integrity.  A minimum 15% of the profits from the sale of Dilmah are used by Merrill J. Fernando’s MJF Charitable Foundation to serve humanity in projects that support marginalised women and differently abled youth whilst promoting conservation and sustainable agriculture.

Dilmah’s Infusions teas can be purchased from Coles and Metcash stores in Australia or online at shop.dilmahtea.com.au

Welcomegroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration Celebrates Worldchefs Accreditation

Paris, France · 19 November 2019 ·  Welcomegroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration Celebrates Worldchefs Accreditation

Article from Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration

The Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration
proudly celebrated their accreditation to the apex body for chefs in the world,
World Association of Chefs Societies, on the 8th of November 2019.
The World
Association of Chefs Societies, known as Worldchefs, is a non-political
professional organization, dedicated to maintaining and improving the culinary
standards of global cuisines. It accomplishes these goals through education,
training and professional development through their international membership. As an
authority and opinion leader on food, Worldchefs represents a global voice on
all issues related to the culinary profession. It was founded in1928 at the
Sorbonne in Paris with the venerable August Escoffier as the first Honorary
President. Worldchefs is a dynamic global network of more than 100 chefs’ associations representing
chefs at all levels and across all specialities worldwide.

Earlier this year the Welcomgroup Graduate
School of Hotel Administration, as a part of this accreditation process, was audited
and enrolled as a member of Indian federation of culinary associations (IFCA).

The Indian Federation of Culinary
Associations is a nodal body of culinary professionals in India and is an
independent, apolitical, non-religious and voluntary organization of culinary professionals
was formed with the
idea of developing the culinary profession and to showcase
Indian cuisine on the global platform. IFCA hopes to promote culinary knowledge
and propagate various kinds of food and bring obscure culinary styles and
practices to the forefront.

The celebration was graced by the top
leadership of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal. The welcome
address was provided by Principal Chef K Thirugnanasambantham who welcomed the
gathering and said the process started nine months back: “There was an intense
audit process. We had lots of work to do. Team WGSHA stuck together and worked
hard. Finally, we achieved the IFCA accreditation last month. The Worldchefs accreditation then followed this. It is a testament to the high standards of
quality culinary education provided here at WGSHA. Besides national and
international rankings, Worldchefs accreditation is yet another feather added to
WGSHA’s crown. It gives us global visibility.”

The chief guest Dr H. Vinod Bhat,
Vice-Chancellor Manipal academy of higher education (MAHE) provided an
inspiring and thought-provoking message. He made the gathering aware of the
prestige attached to the accreditations they had received; how it opened the door
to many more opportunities and how the journey to greater heights was just
beginning. He ended his speech on a light-hearted note saying, “WGSHA unlike
others, is the only institution where any meeting begins and ends with a meal.”
The event was brought to a crescendo with a ceremonious cutting of the cake and
applause from the gathering of student chefs, distinguished guests and faculty
of Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration.

Ever think about how much waste is produced on Halloween?
It’s scary! In the UK alone, more than 8 million pumpkins will be thrown away this Halloween. That’s 18,000 tonnes of edible pumpkin – enough to make 360 million portions of pumpkin pie, more than you’d need to feed every UK citizen in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland 5 slices each!

Here are a few tips to “green your Halloween” this October 31st.

1. Don’t waste Jack.
From toasted pumpkin seeds to delicious soups, muffins, the classic pie, you can find so many recipes for this festive squash. Get creative! Food innovation experts in Scotland released a zero waste ice cream recipe that uses every part on the pumpkin, available in this video tutorial.

2. Choose organic, non-gmo candy.
Buy candy made from natural ingredients, without artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives. Instead of candy, consider giving out things like pencils, temporary tattoos, or other fun treats. In addition to reducing the amount of garbage produced from those single-serve packages (which are not recyclable), you’ll provide a healthier alternative to sweets.

3. Purchase locally grown pumpkins.
You’ve got your recipes ready to use the whole pumpkin. But don’t forget – you can lower your emissions by purchasing locally grown, organic pumpkins.
