anniversary of the coronation of Maria Therese for Hungarian and Czech Queen and
Archduchess of Austria
.

These
three days
at Bratislava castle belonged to the
chefs and gourmands again. For the eighths time, there has been a favourite
gastronomy event
„Slovak Food Festival 2018“.
The Castle became a meeting point of both gastronomists ad gourmands. However,
it was mainly a meeting point for people with good heart, willing to help
those, the destiny was less favourable to.

Vojto Artz, the WCWB Ambassador in
Slovakia,
is already for eight years the professional guarantee.  He´s both author and organizer of the „Vojto

Within his Cooking Show he conceived
literally as a charity also this year, he welcomed on the main stage in
the festival centre several personalities not only of the world of cooking, but
also from the Slovak show-business. The meals and desserts prepared on the stage
were immediately auctioned and this way were changed to the good thing
supporting thing –
improvement of the life conditions of the
children with health issues by means of two foundations: Foundation of Paediatric
Cardiac Centre Foundation Bratislava and Markíza Foundation.
During all three days Vojto
invited to the stage several interesting guests who presented both traditional
and untraditional chef show.
The good thing was supported
also by the members of the Slovak National Junior Team of chefs and
conditioners who are preparing for the international competition World Culinary
CUP 2018 in Luxembourg, renowned Michal
Konrád
,
Maroš Mrenica, Daniel Hrivnák, Tomáš
Pikáli, Daniel Širota and Vlado Lokšík
. The
well known chefs from Czech Republic, Róbert
Sklená?,
member of the Prague branch of the Association of chefs and
conditioners of Czech Republic and the chef Oskar Klanert demonstrated their
craftmanship too.

The children´s workshop „Vojto and Tinka cook with children“, was not missing
either, during which the little chefs were perfectly supported by the audience.

All these participants contributed to
the fact that a nice sum was collected
in the amount of
700,00 Eur.
Within three days, the yield will go to the accounts of
Paediatric
Cardiac Centre Foundation Bratislava and Markíza Foundation.
We are happy that together we´ll succeed to make
the life easier for the children with harder destiny.

Worldchefs Endorsed Thailand Ulitmate Chef Challenge during THAIFEX 2018

BANGKOK, 06 JUNE 2018 – The 15th and
largest edition of THAIFEX-World of Food Asia came to a close on Saturday, 02
June 2018, after five action-packed days on the show floor. A total of 13,110
international trade visitors from over 150 countries were present at the
region’s largest dedicated F&B trade show, representing a 9.4% growth from
the 2017 edition and surpassing all of the show’s previous records.

This brought the total trade
visitor count to a whopping 62,039 – a 12.6% increase from the previous show,
surpassing the expected number of 60,000, and the largest visitorship at THAIFEX-World
of Food Asia to date.

An impactful platform that
showcased the synergistic partnership between the government and private sector
to address growing F&B demands and concerns in Asia, THAIFEX-World of Food
Asia is jointly organized by Koelnmesse Pte Ltd, the Department of
International Trade Promotion, and the Thai Chamber of Commerce.

“The potential of ASEAN is
tremendous. We've been recording strong double digit growth since 2014, in
conjunction with the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community. In fact, we
have been adding an average of 10,000 sqm to the show every year since then,
and we’ve even carved out an additional two trade days this year to better
facilitate business exchange,” said Mathias Kuepper, Managing Director,
Koelnmesse
. “This year's record-breaking figures are a testament to the
attractiveness of the ASEAN F&B market, and we’d like to give our heartfelt
gratitude to all exhibitors, buyers, and visitors for their constant support.”

The platform for
business and commerce

THAIFEX-World of Food Asia 2018
played host to 2,537 exhibitors, recording a remarkable 17% increase from the
previous year, attesting to the increasing importance of the ASEAN region to
the F&B industry. Representatives from countries such as Argentina,
Belgium, Germany, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, and Vietnam held a
strong presence at the show, with international exhibitor numbers on par with
local exhibitors for the second year running.

Echoing the same sentiments, Mrs.
Napawan Promkhatkaew, Managing Director, Family Tree Foods Co. Ltd
said, “The
online business matching and database management tools at THAIFEX-World of Food
Asia contributed greatly to our successful participation as an exhibitor this
year. Not only were we able to widen our business networks and meet prospective
customers from other parts of the world such as Latin America, Africa and the
Middle East using these tools, the strong promotional efforts of the organizers
also meant our existing customers knew about our participation at the show, and
took time to fly in to Bangkok to meet us here.”

Across 01 and 02 June, more than
3,000 buyers were hosted by the Department of
Page International Trade Promotion and
Koelnmesse. The program helped match top buyers 2/4 with international exhibitors
looking to penetrate the burgeoning F&B market in ASEAN.

“Exhibiting at THAIFEX-World of
Food Asia is a truly important opportunity for Argentina and for any company
looking to penetrate the ASEAN market, which is why we flew representatives
from 28 companies halfway around the world to be here. Through the customized
business matching program, we had the privilege of introducing high quality
food products from Argentina's central region to the hosted buyers, exchanging
knowledge, and interacting with like-minded individuals in the industry,” said Mr.
Diego Gómez, Head of Commercial Promotion in Federal Council of Investments
.

“Premium Distribution is always on
the lookout for products and suppliers to keep us competitive and to further
expand on our 2,000 stock keeping units,” said Ms. Emma Khine Mon, Head of
Supply Chain, Premium Distribution
. “THAIFEX-World of Food Asia’s hosted
buyer program provided us a dedicated, uninterrupted session to learn about new
potential suppliers, focus on exploring new opportunities, and forging new
partnerships.”

Affirming Thailand as Kitchen of
the World

This year’s Thailand Ultimate Chef
Challenge (TUCC) certainly did not disappoint visitors as the world’s elite
culinary talents cooked up a storm, preparing a myriad of local and
international delicacies. The highly popular culinary challenge saw more than
1,300 entries from 10 countries pitting their skills against one another, all
vying for the coveted championship titles of the various challenges within the
competition.

Together with more than 40
international judges from 11 countries, this year’s collaboration between
Koelnmesse, Thailand Chefs Association and the Worldchefs (WACS) crowned the
following champions:

·
Best Ultimate Pastry Chef Award?Ms. Chanida Kanapitakpong, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University ?

·
Best Ultimante Junior Chef Award?Ms. Chanida Kanapitakpong, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University ?

·
Best Ultimate Professional Chef Award?Ms. Sucharat Piyachokphaisarn, Suan Dusit University ?

·
Best Ultimate Establishment Award (Professional) Suan Dusit
University
?“The passion and dedication demonstrated by these
chefs during the competition truly showcased what TUCC is all about. The
gastronomic talents were raised to a whole other level at this year’s edition
of TUCC. Every year, the competition gets stiffer and we’re excited to see what
the 8th TUCC brings,” said Chef Willment Leong, Organizing Chairman,
Thailand Ultimate Chef Challenge
.
?The 4th Celebrity Coffee Bar
brought together 14 famed baristas from around the world, where they showcased
their finesse in coffee brewing and perfected latte art.
?

Espresso and brew tasting
masterclasses were also held to cater to budding coffee
Page connoisseurs,
where baristas and exhibitors offered tips and tricks on how to perfect 3/4 the art of
making coffee.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the
opportunity to learn different brewing techniques from other champion baristas
from around the region. It was amazing to see how our shared passion for coffee
connected us despite our different cultural backgrounds. Although this is the
first time I’m taking part in a trade exhibition, my experience at the
Celebrity Coffee Bar has inspired me to start sharing sessions back home in the
Philippines to spread the love for coffee with both amateur and professional
baristas,” said Mr. Aldrin Lumaban, 2018 Philippine National Barista
Champion
.

Minimizing food waste and giving
back to local communities

According to the UNEP, roughly 30%
of the food produced worldwide is lost or wasted every year. Hence, in
partnership with the Thai Scholars of Sustenance (Thai SOS), a foundation
committed to increasing food security through the management of food waste,
exhibitors at THAIFEX-World of Food Asia came together to collect leftover food
during the teardown of the show. The food donation was then inspected, packed,
and stored appropriately by Thai SOS, before being delivered to local
communities in need of supplies.

New features for 2019

Keeping abreast of industry trends,
and proactively gathering insights from show attendees, both new and revamped
segments have been carved out for next year’s THAIFEX-World of Food Asia.
Exhibitors and visitors can look forward to a new trade show featuring fresh
produce, evolved from this year’s THAIFEX Fruits and Vegetables. At the same
time, the THAIFEX Frozen Food trade show will expand to include frozen fruits
and vegetables to better streamline and facilitate buying processes.

A future trend fuelled by the
increasing prevalence of food allergy is the “free-from” market, which will
debut at the show next year, featuring products that are free from allergens,
such as non-GMO, gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, and sugar-free.

THAIFEX-World of Food Asia 2019
will be held from 28 May to 01 June. More information about the event is

Worldchefs prepare 12,000 meals for Ayeyarwady Delta tour

Renowned chefs will host a charity gala on Saturday, June 9 to raise funds for an initiative to feed thousands of people living in the Ayeyarwady Delta.

Organized by World Chefs Without Borders and Myanmar Chefs Association (MCA), the five-course dinner at Pullman Hotel Yangon will launch a campaign to mark the 10th anniversary of Myanmar worst recorded disaster, Cyclone Nargis.

Seventy chefs from 24 countries traveling to Myanmar at their own expense and donating 1,000 euros each will cook 4,000 meals for passersby outside Shwedagon Pagoda’s south entrance at 6am on June 10.

The following morning the chefs will board a cruise ship to the delta, where they will donate some 8,000 meals and 8,000 aid bags to people affected by the cyclone. In addition, about 150 orphans will be given school bags and equipment, the group’s dentist and doctor will visit a local hospital, and all of the cooking utensils—10 gas burners, 20 pots, stirring spoons—will be donated to local communities.

MCA president Oliver E. Soe Thet also hopes to release thousands of native fish in the rivers in order to boost the local ecosystem. Other top chefs presenting courses in the gala and joining the cruise include Singaporeans Tony Khoo and Louis Tay, Kam Kui Mak from Hong Kong, and Philippine pastry chef Buddy Trinidad.

Training the unemployed for a better future, Worldchefs in partnership with Electrolux and Aiesec are engaged for a better world!

Founded by Worldchefs, powered by The Electrolux Food Foundation and Aiesec, FEED THE PLANET is extending the successful zero-waste culinary training program for unemployed people to a second location in Brazil. Plans are also in place to launch the program in Argentina, Russia and Egypt in the near future.

With a focus on reducing food waste, the Electrolux Food Foundation launched a culinary training program as a pilot in Curitiba, Brazil, in September 2017.

Since then, 34 people – mostly women – have been trained. Out of the first batch of 18 students, eight have already found new jobs.

“The team in Curitiba – together with our partners Worldchefs and AIESEC – took this sketch of an idea, developed and implemented it in a way that exceeded everyone’s expectations. This has inspired us to replicate the program in other locations,” says Malin Ekefalk, Director of Social Responsibility at Electrolux.

Training the Unemployed for a Better Future

Worldchefs, together with AIESEC and Electrolux is extending the successful zero-waste culinary
training program for unemployed people to a second location in Brazil. Plans
are also in place to launch the program in Argentina, Russia and Egypt in the
near future for the Electrolux Food Fundation.

With a focus on reducing food waste,
the Electrolux Food Foundation launched a culinary training program as a pilot
in Curitiba, Brazil, in September 2017.

Since then, 34 people – mostly women
– have been trained. Out of the first batch of 18 students, eight have already
found new jobs.

“The team in Curitiba – together with our partners Worldchefs
and AIESEC – took this sketch of an idea, developed and implemented it in a way
that exceeded everyone’s expectations. This has inspired us to replicate the
program in other locations,” says Malin Ekefalk, Director of Social Responsibility
at Electrolux.

Looking towards a brighter future
One of the lucky students is Sirlei who was unemployed for some time before she
took part in the training. After the course, she was hired by a restaurant
which specializes in private events because she could prepare a wide variety of
food including finger food, pasta, cakes and desserts.

Meanwhile, Felipe is helping out one
of the chefs who trained him. This is his first job in a professional kitchen
and he has high hopes of becoming a professional chef one day.

In September 2018, a second culinary
training center will open in São Carlos, Brazil. Plans are also underway to
launch the program in Argentina, Russia and Egypt soon.

“The Curitiba project is a great example of how three
different organizations – Worldchefs, Electrolux and AIESEC – can work
together to achieve life-changing results. I could not be prouder or happier
with this project and look forward to replicating it globally,” says
Christopher Koetke, Worldchefs Vice President Strategy and Industry Relations.

About the culinary training program

The ten-week course developed by
Worldchefs is taught by volunteering professional chefs in
a special
kitchen created at the Electrolux facility in Curitiba. The project is driven
by employees together with the Electrolux Food Foundation, and is heavily
supported by its partners Worldchefs and AIESEC.

About the Electrolux Food Foundation
The Electrolux Food Foundation was established in
2016. It brings employee initiatives to life by supporting them with funding

Sad day for the Culinary Industry, Worldchefs and ACF is deeply saddened to inform the death of L. Edwin Brown!

The American Culinary Federation, Worldchefs and the
culinary community have lost of one of our finest leaders and ambassadors.

L.Edwin Brown, HAAC, HHOF, the ACF's first executive director
(1980-1994) passed away on May 25th, 2018, while at home in St Augustine,
Florida!

Brown's impact
on culinarians is profound. He was a driving force in in the effort to
transform chefs from “domestics” to professionals. While an educator
in Pennsylvania, Brown created a three-year, 6,000-hour apprenticeship program
that established a path for students into a culinary career. This program was
adopted by the Army, recognized by the Department of Labor in 1976 and remains
the genesis for modern culinary education.

ACF Board
President Stafford DeCambra, CEC, CCE, CCA, AAC, remembers Brown as a guiding
force for culinarians, himself included. “It wasn't only his passion for
food, for chefs, for cooking and travel that endeared him to all of us. It was
his kindness. He knew everyone's name. He knew the names of their children. And
in turn, everyone knew him. I never went to a competition or event where 'Uncle
Ed' didn't have friends everywhere. Any chef who has ever attended culinary
school owes him a debt.”

Brown was born
in Centre Hall, Pennsylvania, and attended Potter High School,  Centre
Hall. He began his career in foodservice at age 17 at The Nittany Lion Inn on
the campus of Pennsylvania State University, State College, Pennsylvania. He
worked in all areas of the inn, receiving room and board and earning enough to
cover tuition. Brown received a bachelor's degree in hotel administration in
1958, and served as the inn's food and beverage manager 1958-1969. He received
a master's degree in education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania,
Indiana, Pennsylvania, in 1977.

Brown's many awards
and honors include ACFEI's Educator of the Year Award, 1977; Howard B. Meek
Award for Hospitality Educator of Year from the Council of Hotel, Restaurant
and Institutional Education, 1979; honorary membership in the Swiss Chefs
Association, 1982; honorary lifetime membership in the German Chefs
Association, 1989; an Antonin Carême award from the Chefs Association of the
Pacific Coast (now, ACF San Francisco Chapter), 1990; and induction into the
Order of the Golden Toque, 1991. In 2000, he was awarded an honorary doctor of
business administration degree from Johnson & Wales University, Norfolk,
Virginia. He received a Distinguished Alumni Award from Indiana University of
Pennsylvania in 2014.

In addition,
Brown traveled with ACF Culinary Team to the Internationale Kochkunst Ausstellung (IKA) in Germany on several
occasions as a support staff member. From 1992 to 1996, he served as
secretary-general of Worldchefs.

Please join us

Electrolux extends the "Sustainable Gastronomy" social project to other countries.

A Global Project, pioneer in Brazil, confirms
its third edition in Curitiba, and will be extended to other regions.

Reinventing experiences of taste, care and
well-being, the Sustainable Gastronomy program is already starting for its
third edition in the city of Curitiba. On May 11, Electrolux along with its
supporters, celebrated the graduation of 16 students from the second edition.

“Sustainable
Gastronomy” is part of For the
Better
, one of Electrolux's global commitments to help address key global
challenges such as hunger, malnutrition, food waste and responsible
consumption. In addition, it also cooperates to achieve the Sustainable
Development Goals
established by the UN Agenda 2030. The program is
funded by the Food Foundation, a global institution of Electrolux that supports
local initiatives focused on food and sustainability.

Due to
the great adhesion in Sustainable Gastronomy, the program already has its third
edition confirmed for May in Curitiba, in addition to being expanded to the
city of São Carlos, in São Paulo, and Rosario, Argentina. “Apart from the
cities in Latin America, Sustainable Gastronomy is in the implementation phase
in other countries, such as Egypt, Russia, and even a similar deployment in
Dubai,” says Valmir Buscarioli, Vice President of Human Resources
Electrolux Latin America.

The perspective of the social project is to train more than 60
unemployed people in the city of Curitiba within the year 2018. With the
awareness of the best use of food, the company estimates that about 1,000
people will be impacted at each class formed. “This comes along with the
appreciation of the subject, which is growing, and the interest of the
population to participate in our course, with the vacancies increasingly
disputed. We are really fulfilling the purpose of our company, of the 18

others are undertaking or taking better care of their families,” explains
Valmir Buscarioli.

The project counts on the support to AIESEC, Foundation of Social Action
